"Bleak and sinister overtones from this new Melbourne
trio, Ian Curtis comparisons have of course been thrown about along
with the rather obvious Nick Cave, always mentioned when anything
from the "down under" dark side rears its head. However
it's a version of our own Howard Devotos Magazine that is brought
to my mind - the buoyant bass and drums sub funk groove and an over
affected 80's guitar white noise wash throught the whole track"

"Australian three piece The Sinking Citizenship possess
one of the strangest names you could imagine, but their single “Shake”
does push all the right buttons. Slightly lo-fi bass and drums back
up the raw, almost unaffected rasping guitars. It ends up as a brighter,
slightly sharper version of new (gothy) indie, although singer Kristian
does have a worrying quiver to his voice. That said, there’s
a warm almost charming overall sound. The bass eminates a slightly
limp rasp whilst the guitars cut up like the Bunnymens Will Sergeant
in his early “Crocodiles” glory days. Whilst all this
sonic wrangling goes on, The Sinking Citizenship undoubtedly have
a wider musical ambition. As a precursor to the UK release of their
homespun 2004 album “Broadcasting Germs”, Fantastic
Plastic present this very viable limited 500 copy vinyl run. “Last
Minute Intervention” does preview the new album (“Shake”
won’t be on the long player) and it all firmly points up,
with yet more edgy, clever guitar work. Ones to watch" MANCHESTER
